WIRELESS FUND FOR AUCKLAND HOSPITAL
APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC Those who have been patients in hospital know the weary hours of waiting for the return of health and strength. Time passes so slowly for those who are ill, and any object which will give pleasure and happiness to sick folk is worthy of whole-hearted support. To-day is the day of radio. Throughout the big hospitals of the world wireless is being installed and is proving a great success. Prominent medical men have agreed that it plays an important part in assisting ailing folk to regain their health and strength. It has been decided to instal wireless in the Auckland Hospital so that every patient will be able to take advantage of the broadcast concerts and so pass the time cheerfully. An energetic body of workers, with Mrs. Mary Dreaver as organiser, is making an appeal to the citizens of Auckland for the required sum of £3,500. This sum will mean the installation of headr phones to every bed in the Auckland Public Hospital except the infectious diseases ward, where loud-speakers will be installed. The superintendent of the hospital. Dr. C. E. Maguire, has associated himself with this humane appeal. He feels sure that the people of Auckland will not be behind-hand in such a worthy object. The Hon. G. Fowlds, the Hon, E. W. Alison and Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., have also associated themselves with the organisers in this splendid appeal to the public. Already the sum of £SO has been received from Mr. D. R. Caldwell, of Cambridge, toward the cost of the installation. Other smaller sums have also been given.
