NAME SUPPRESSION

CONSIDERED BY JUSTICES Press Association DUNEDIN, Friday. A remit which had for its object the iutomatic suppression of the names of persons convicted of a first offence and admitted to probation, was moved by Mr. Isaac Salek at the conference of the Justices of the Peace Association. The mover urged that the spirit of the First Offenders’ Probation Act was not being carried out if probation were granted and the name published. After a long discussion the motion was lost by nine votes to seven.
