OBITUARY

MR. G. M. JOHNSTON An association with the legal profession in Auckland, extending over 40 years, was severed yesterday with the sudden death of Mr. George Miller Johnston, senior member of the firm of Johnston, Coates, and Fee. While preparing to leave his home in Victoria Avenue, Mount Eden, for the office, Mr. Johnston was the subject of a heart seizure, which resulted in his death. The deceased was in his 64th year, and was the youngest son of the Rev. John Johnston, of Balmaghie. Castle Douglas, Scotland. He came to New Zealand about 40 years ago, and commenced to practice as a solicitor. In 1886 he was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court, and since his entry into active work in the courts he has made many friends, and was recognised for his able pleadings. It had been the intention of deceased to retire at the end of the month and undertake a tour abroad. He is survived by a widow, one daughter, and one son, Mr. Kenneth Johnston. MR. C. R. WILLIAMS The death yesterday of Mr. C. It. Williams, a member of the staff of the Auckland branch of the Bank of Australasia, at the age of 51 years, removed a well-known and highly - respected member of the commercial world in this city. The deceased was a son of the Rev. H. Williams, Christchurch, and was educated at Christ’s College, where he won distinction on the athletic fields.
