TO-MORROW’S RACING

BAY OF PLENTY PROGRAMME REVIEW OF THE CARD The annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Racing Club is to be held at Tauranga to-morrow. The course is reported to be in good order after the recent rains, and with large fields in the majority of events the sport promises to be most interesting. Excursion fares have been arranged for the steamer leaving Central Wharf tonight at seven o’clock, the steamer returning from Tauranga to-morrow evening. Proceedings will commence with the TRIAL PLATE, 5 furlongs.

There may not be any budding champions engaged in this race, but the dozen acceptors will provide an interesting contest. Roman Abbey won a double at Paengaroa on Wednesday, and if eligible to start should be able to account for Bolton Abbey and Red Comet. This is to be followed by the MAUNGANUI HANDICAP, 6 furlongs.

Dutchie is a recent winner, and as the field here is not over strong he will probably be conspicuous throughout the running. Major Abbey ran second in a very big field at the recent Franklin meeting, and he should be one of those that may extend Dutchie. A good field has been accepted for in the TAURANGA CUP, 1£ miles.

Spoony does not appear to be up to weight, although if he did anything like his best the odds could not be short enough. Archeen has not shaped as a stayer up to the present, but Passionate will be suited by the conditions, and the ten furlongs will be in his favour. Ring the Bell continues to disappoint, and Kingfield, next on the list, would be more at home over a shorter course. Right and Left has been working nicely of late, and may be depended upon to be near at hand at the end. Of the lightweights Thursby, The Author, and Namutere make most appeal. In a very open race Passionate and Spoony may be sent out the best backed. A fair field of hacks will parade for the

Gold Dot is the form horse to follow, and the daughter of Thurnham should not experience great difficulty in disposing of the claims of Valkon and Kyngzone. . Several cup horses figure m the field accepted for the GREERTON HANDICAP, 7 furlongs.

Ngarara has been something of a disappointment after showing promise earlier in the spring, but she seems to have her chance here if reserved for this event. However the smart Gold 1 >ot also is in the race, and the latter is preferred if this event is to be her mission. The smallest field of the day will contest the BAY OF PLENTY WELTER HANDICAP, 7 furlongs.

Roman Abbey and Lady Spalpeen are a pair that should be found racing prominently. The seventh event is the COUNTY STAKES,

The field for this contest is practically the same as in the opening race, and if Roman Abbey, Bolton Abbey, and Red Comet go to the post they are sure to carry the bulk of the investments. The fixture will be brought to a close with the FLYING HANDICAP, 6 furlongs.

A trio that must go well is comprised of Archeen, Kingfield, and Gold Dot. They all claim earlier engagements, but if saddled up here they would be able to account for those fufther down the list.
