PRICES AT WESTFIELD COW BEEF IN DEMAND Except in the case of cow beef, which was in slightly better demand, stock values at Westfield yesterday were on a. par with late rates! Th'ere was the usual attendance of buyers and bidding was fairly spirited throughCattle Including yearlings and vealers between 700 and 800 cattle were yarded and, though some fine quality beasts were penned, the majority were light, and dairy strains were largely in evidence. Heavy prime steers made from £lO 10s to £ll ss; ligher prime steers, from £9 15s to. £lO 7s 6d* medium sorts, £8 15s to £ 9 10s; unfinished and small, £7 10s to £ 3 10s; heavy prime young .cows and heifers; £6 to £7 ss; prime, £ 5 5s to £5 17s 6d; light cows, £4 5s to £5; inferior sorts, £3 to £4. Sheep For a yarding of under 2,000 sheep there was the usual demand from butchers, one of the big Auckland companies operating freely. The balance of the offering were in good sale condition, though there were many pens which could have been, better finished. Extra prime well finished wethers made from 24s 9d to 26s 6d: prime wethers, 23s 6d to 24s 6d; light, 21s 9d to 29s 9d; small and unfinished, 17s to 20s. Extra prime ewes made from 18s to 19s 9d; prime, 16s to 17s 6d; medium, 14s 15s 9d; light, 12s 6d to 13s 9d; inferior sorts, 8s to 11s 9d. Heavy prime lambs made from 23s to 255; prime, 21s to 22s 9d; light, 18s to 20s; unfinished, 10s to 14s. Pigs There was a good demand for an offering of approximately 500 pigs, the balance of which were in first-class order. Baconers were in firm demand and values increased on late quotations. Choppers sold from £2 10s to £5; heavy and medium baconers, £3 9s to £3 12s; light baconers and heavyporkers, £3 to £3 7s; medium porkers and light porkers, £2 10s to £2 18s; small and unfinished porkers, £2 to £2 Bs. Store pigs were penned in average numbers and sold at late quotations. Large stores made £ 1 10s to £1 18s; slips, £1 3s to £1 8s; weaners, 12s to 17s. Calves Values for calves were slightly easier than at late sales, except for extra choice pens. Runners made £2 10s to £4 13s; heavy vealers, £3 to £3 10s; medium, £2 10s to £2 18s; light, £2 to £2 8s; smaller, £1 10s to £1 ISs; small and fresh-dropped, 3s to £1 8s; rough calves, 12« to £ 1 ss.
