LADY DESMOND'S CUP

RANGITIKEI RACES SPRINT TO BRIGHT KNIGHT BEAUMONT WINS HIGH-WEIGHT (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, To-day. Euchre put up a great performance in winning the Oliakea Hurdles, being nearly last four furlongs from home. Halgina and Banjuke made the early running, Cracker Day falling entering the straight the first time. Turning for home Banjuke led Grand Lupin, Mountain Bell and Blood Red, with Euchre coming fast. In the run home Euchre drew out and won by three lengths from Alountain Bell, who was a length and a-half in front of Son o’ Aline, and with Blood Red, Grand Lupin and Anchor following. Vast Acre was expected to win the Trial, which proved easy for her. After getting away badly Vast Acre moved up quickly, lying behind Arrow Boy, Erin-go-Bragh, Alusket Vein and Lethal at the four furlongs. Arrow Boy, Erin-go-Bragh, Vast Acre, Lethal, Whetunui and Paitonu was the order into the straight, the favourite winning easily by four lengths. Takini was a length behind Erin-go-Bragh, being followed by Lethal, Arrow Boy, Alusket Vein and Whetunui. Lady Desmond’s Fine Performance Lady Desmond was the good thing anticipated for the Cup. Shining Armour, Blue Peter, Alloway, Ngata and Nukumai was the order leading past the stand. The favourite was well back turning into the back • stretch, where Blue Peter was well out from the rest. Blue Peter turned into the straight first, followed by Ngata and Lady Desmond, and the rest bunched. In the run home the favourite drew out and won by a length from Ngata, who was half a length in front of Star Area, followed by Nukumai, Mint Leaf, Blue Peter, Shining Armour, Alloway and Opa. Rising Star, favourite in the Ngatiapa Hack, duly landed the goods. The favourite was first to show out from Hymestrason, Lieutenant Bill, Acred, Some Lad and Paitonu. Turning for home, Paitonu, Henna, Acred and Rising Star were in line, with the rest bunched, the favourite coming away to <win by a length, with Paitonu a head away, a neck in front of Acred. Hymestrason, Some Lad and Henna were next.

Win for Waikato Horse

Four started in the Scott Alemorial. Bright was favourite, and he was slightly left, but he ran up second to Mireusonta after a furlong, with Bonogne and Lady Bentinck next. Bright Knight was first into the straight ahead of Bonogne and Mireusonta, and won nicely by two lengths from Bonogne. Alireusonta was half a length away, a neck in front of Lady Bentinck.

Captain Gazeley was a hot favourite in the Pukenui Hack. A good start saw the favourite and Mister Gamp showing out. Troilus, Alister Gamp, Captain Gazeley apd Bent was the order down the back, and turning for home Bent ranged alongside Troilus and Alister Gamp, with Captain Gazeley coming fast. The favourite took the lead at the distance, winning by a length, with Bent half a length away, a head in front of the fast finishing Alister Gamp. Beaumont Successful

Another favourite got home in the Clifton High-Weight. Benmure, Glengariff and Beaumont led down the back from Wilderness, Brigadier Bill and Attractive. The favourite took the lead on the bend and was the first to straighten up, winning easily by half a length. Brigadier Bill was a head behind Glengariff, with Wilderness, Attractive and Benmure next in order. Quillfire was the first to show out in the Carnarvon Hack, Aiiss Pat, Orcades and Helen following. These made all the running, Helen leading into the straight, but Orcades had it on the Limond filly in the run to the judge, winning by a length and a-half. Lady Cynthia was three lengths away, followed by Molto, Quillfire and Great Day. DETAILED RESULTS MARTON, Wednesday. The Rangitikei Club’s annual meeting opened to-day in dull weather. The course was holding. The attendance was fair and the totalisator handled £13,564, against £16,689 on the corresponding day last year.
