PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP STARTS NEXT MONDAY The annual champion pairs competition, under the control of the Auckland Bowling Centre, will commence next Monday morning. Two days will be given to section play, after which the nine surviving pairs will take part in post section play. The preliminary play will take place on the Mount Albert, Essoin, St. Heliei's, Devonport, and West End greens,_ and post section play will be concentrated on the Remuera green. Section winners will start play on the two-life system on the Remuera green at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The championship draw is as lows:—Section A (Mt. Albert green).—H. Johnson (Ponsonby), G. SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY AT HAMILTON EAST (From Our Oxen Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. The singles bowling championship of the Waikato was contested at the Hamilton East Club’s green yesterday, after being postponed from Saturday owing to unfavourable weather. The championship was played on the two-life system over 21 heads, and the winner of the group will meet the winners, respectively, of the King Country, Goldfields and Bay of Plenty groups for the South Auckland Centi’e championship, which will be contested at Hamilton on April 6.
Rain made the surface heavy for yester day’s play. Details are:—
First Round.—G. Frost beat H. Fenwick (Whitiora), 11; N. Bell jun. (Hamilton), 26, beat C. E. Glover (Fi-ankton Railway), 9; R. MacFarlane (Ngaruawahia), 20, beat R. Coombes (Claudelands), 10; VV. Horton (Hamilton East), won by default from Pearce (Cambridge).

Coombes’ two losses were unexpected Good play was witnessed in the second round, but the tournament had to be abandoned owing to rain in the third I'ound.

Along the line of Broadway below 135th Street there are 12,;)00 electric signs, l'egularly using more than 1,000,000 lamps. Restaurants lead this list of illuminated business places with 3,000 electric signs.
