IfUKHJER OF CANDIDATES ANNOUNCE INTENTIONS Supplementary Roll Now Being Prepared The mayors and councillors who were chosen in 1925 to represent the electors in the government of municipal affairs have practically completed their 'duties, and a revised personnel will take over the duties in a few weeks! time, when the lor. ' elections will b» held all over the Dominion. The number o* names listed is 31,872, 254 more than on the 1925 main There is at present a rush of ieants for enrolment on the supnentary roll. The main roll has on thoroughly cleaned up, and recently more than 2,200 names were removed for one reason or another. City Council Auckland City Council, at least, will see considerable alteration. The Mayoral office has four prospective candidates. They are: Mr. ; G. Bailrion, present Mayor. Mr.' J. A. Warnock, Deputy-Mayor. Mr.: T. Blood worth. Labour. Mr.. H. Schmidt, Independent. At he last elections only two candidates' went to the poll, Mr. Baildon t cording 9,325 votes against Mr. '••hmidt’s 5,678 on the first count. The City Council must therefore Use two or three of its present personnel, whoever wins the contest. In addition Messrs. C. F. Bennett, Li. A. Idady and J. Robertson have announced their intention of retiring, so that at least five seafs will not be occupied by present councillors. Harbour and Hospital Member? of the Harbour Board who retire and-have the option of offering their services again are Messrs. H. R. Mackenzie (present chairman), J. B. Johnston, S. W. Inder, T. Bloodworth, W. M. Murray, J. Henderson, M. H. Wvnyard, T. B. Clay and G. Parr. From the Hospital Board the members who retire, tc be returned or replaced by the electors, are Messrs. W. Wallace (present chairman), E. A. Kidd, W. K. Howitt, J. Dempsey, G. G. Knight, W. A. Thompson, E. H. Potter and ;J. Rowe. Amongst their opponents at the polls will be Labour and friendly society nominees. Suburban Councils Up to the present several of the suburban Toroughs do not know who their mayoral candidates will be. Newmarket will probably have an election this year, the present Mayor (Mr. IS. Donaldson) being opposed by Mr. A. Kent, who headed the council poll Ipst ejection. Mr. Donaldson has had hree terms as Mayor, and was elected unopposed to his present position. Mr. W. J. Tait, who has occupied the chair at Avondale for several years, will not offer his services this year and is devoting his honorarium for the past jtwo years to the provision of a play area ,for the borough. At the unanimous wish of his counfillors, Mr R. B. Todd has decided to offer his : ervices again as Mayor of Otahuhu. le was unopposed last election.
