i CnowpKD Out.—Owing to the pressure on ouv space this week wo jinvo been com. polled to hold over a very interesting letter from n Tonga correspondent describing (lio proceedings connected with tho burial of the lato Prince David Ugu. Captain Cliudeu, of the Nautilus, is very favournbly spoken of by our correspondent for his various Kindnesses to the Tonga people. Wo linvo also been compelled to hold over a report of several shoals in'tho Tonga (Jroup. which wero surveyed nnd marked by the Nautilus. This report will bo of considerable interest to those engaged in the inter-island trade. Municipal Couut.—ln this Court,'on tllO 2llth ultimo, before R. Hothorington, Esq., Municipal Magistrate, Sitioui was charged with illegally detaining property belonging to Mr. L. Hoefer. Sitioui agreed to restore the property on receipt of SI which he claimed to bo duo him by Mr. Hoefer.—On the 2nd instant, V.\ S. Dunlop was summoned to appear and answer to a chargo of using obscene language on the puhlic road, and also of conducting himself in a manner calculated to create a breach of tho peace. Accused failed to appear, and a was issued for his apprehension. Appellate Court.—This Court met on Monday last to hear the appeals of the parties convicted of the late assaults at Vaoa and Apia, against tho decision of tho Municipal Court. None of the appellants, however, put in an appearance, and the appeals wore consequently dismissed. We learn that tho appeals of Tunto ami Luatua, who were convicted some time ago of an assault at Mulinuti, were heard yesterday afternoon, but the result has not yet transpired. Birthday Festivities. Thursday being the anniversary of the birthday of J. C. Godeffroy, Esq., senior partner ofthefirmof Messrs. J. 0. Godeffroy & Co., of Hamburg the employees of the Deutsche Handels and Plantagen Gosollschaft dor Su.lsee Inseln, with which concern Mr. Godeffroy is intimately connected, held holiday in honour of the occasion. The Agnes Edgoll displayed her colours during the day, and Imntin" was to be soeu floating at various points. In the evening, Mr. August Godeffroy, manager of the Deutsche Handels and Plantagen Uesellschaft dor Sudsoo Inseln, entertained a large company at the premises at Savalnlo. Tho gathering was a very enjoyable one, and tho health of the venerable old gentleman at Hamburg, in whose honour tho guests had assembled, was drunk in many Lumpers. The La Rochelle.—Taking advantage of the line breeze on Thursday morning, Captain Witt was early at work, and by ten o'clock had tiio blue-pctor hoisted as a signal for the Pilot to corao on board. •Shortly after eleven tho last anchor was tripped, and the gallant vessel was soon outside the reef. In addition to a valuable cargo of Island produce, tho La Rochelle takes several passengers to Europe, among whom there is our old friend, Air. 1-'. Cornwall, of Pasotootai. This gentleman is an old settlor, and under the title of Faluni is well known over the whole of the Group. In the course of a residence in Samoa of over fifteen years, Mr. Cornwall has acquired a considerable quantity of land, and now owns extensive plantations both in this and the neighbouring Island of Savnii. but being an Englishman, has had more than his share of trouble with laud and labour questions. During tho illness of the lute Mr. Liardet, liritish Consul at this port, and until the appointment of his success*!', .Mr. Cornwall acted as Vice-Consul, and filled the ollico so satisfactorily that the liritish Government was pleased to make him a substantial acknowledgement of his services. Mr. Cornwall will probably bo nhsent from Samoa for twelve months." •
