We are now in the holiday season, and for the last few days trade operation* have been entirely suspended, but in the earlier i art of tho weak business was fairly active. As wiil bo seen by our shipping report tho long-expected I'eter Godeffroy has ut length arrived. A considerable portion of her cargo ■ of beer has found a ready .sale, as this market, for a long time past, has been entirely cleared out of nny drinkable lager. la the way of auctions, we have to report that on Saturday last .Mr. Alvord held a sale, when he succeeded in disposing of u largo quantity of provisions, ftc, at fair rates. On Tuesday the same gentleman ''Conducted a very successful Christmas auction of toyß dud fancy goods. The linns offered wore very numerous, und tho auction room had the appearance of a fancy lair. At tlie conclusion of tho sale ol fuuey | goods tho auctioneer submitted a quantity of brnud and flour in tins, more or loss damaged. These lines were offered -without 11 serve, aud wore quitted at very loir price*. A quantity of JJ.2. flour in bags was also •disposed of at the exceedingly low rato of Jo per lb. Importers and holders of breadMnll'sinust now bo losing heavily, and the bak.-rs who were complaining some time ago of high rates aie now having it all their own way. jVe quote prices for provisions, Ac, as follows:—N.
