The Weathxr.—During the past I week the weather has been, for the most part, very sultry and unhealthy. Considerable rain has fallen, accompanied, at times, by heavy peals of thunder and vivid lightning Altogether very unseasonable weather. Dmmx and Disobdebly —On Thursday last, in the Tuamasaga native oourt, before Tofaiono, native judge, Levita, Soosoo, Peni, andMosunu were each fined Sls for being drunk on the day previous Pustolu was fined $25 for being drunk and insulting foreigners.
Thi Lxquob Law.—lt may net bt generally known that the Tuamasaga (ioverament hare passed a law prohibiting natives from tasting intoxicating liquor under a penalty of $ 15. This is a step in the right direction, and worthy of all support We are farther informed that if foreigners are at all molested by natives they have only to give the name of the culprit to a Tuamasaga chief to ensure his punishment
Thx Mat.—On Wednesday last the annual meeting of the Apia division of the London Mission Society, was held in Apia. ■ It was, as is usual, quite a gala day with the natives, who were attirea in dresses of every quality, colour and make The proceedings oomuiecsed about 9 o'clock, in the native chapel, waen addresses were delivered to the adults by the Revs. T. Powell, Dr. Turner, senr, Dr. Turner, junr., and some of *Jhe Dative pastors. This being over, an ex change of food amongst the natives present took place. At about 2.30 pm. the children's meeting commenced. Thay wen addressed by the aboveuientioned gentlemen, in addition to which the Rev. Dr. Turner, senr., exhibited and explained a number of scriptural diagrams. The whole proceedings concluded about 5 p.m, when the natives wended their way homewards, apparently very much pleased with what they had heard and seen.
