A London cable states tiiat Austin Quick, son of the late Mr W. H. Quick, of Wellington, has loan killed in action.
Amongst the promotions recently announced was that of an old Stratford boy, Lieut. L. M-. Liardet, to bo captain (dated September 24, 1916; since killed hi action).
The many friends of Captain W. V. Wilson (who was seriously ill with pneumonia and complications) win be pleased to learn that he is so far on tho mend as to be able to sit up fox a little while.
Mr Cecil Mayne, touning manager for Ossipoff'& Concert Party, was in town yesterday arranging for the appearance of this celebrated combination at the Town Hall on Tuesday, 2nd January, the night of the second race-day. The re-appear-ance of M. Ossipoff, the talented Russian baritone, will be hailed with genuine joy by those who had the {privilege of hearing him sing during his tour of the Dominion five years ago. M. Ossipoff, it may be mentioned, "opened" the Eltham Municipal Theatre, in the course of his tour, having the honor of being the first to perform in that building. The delightful evening and the vociferous reception accorded the singer by the large audience will long be Iremembered by those who were present.
