THE MAIN TrtUNK SLIP. Per Press Association. Auckland, December 27. As a result of the construction of a loop line, the gap in the Main Trunk line has been closed up, and there is now no necessity for passengers to transfer from one train to another. The work of clearing Karaka cutting, where the slip occurred, wiTl probably occupy some weeks, but the time-table will be adhered to by means of the loop line. SICK AND WOUNDED ARRIVE. Auckland-, December 27. Thirty-one sick and wounded, Including four officers, arrived from London by a steamer yesterday morning. The southern soldiers left for their homes by train. THE CHEESE SHIPPING DIFFICULTY. Dunedin, December 27. Mr Massey has sent the following cable to-Mr Lamb, secretary of tntSouth Island Dairy Association, in reply to a message pointing out the probable difficulty ahead in securing shipping freight for cheese.—" The President of the Board of Trade assures me that cheese will be shipped and pressure relieved."
