(Notes by Cicero.)

Sportsmen in all parts of the Dominion will have their wants supplied in tlio racing lino during the next fortnight, when no less than twenty clubs will provide for horseowners. Of the various meetings at this time of the year, Ellerslie is the most important, and the forthcoming fixture of the Auckland Club promises to he well up to the high standard set by the Northerners. The “hacks” engaged in the Shorthand Plate are a good lot, and some of the number may be found contesting the principal handicaps of this Dominion before the close of the racing season. Beltane, Thames and Ayah are southerners who may keep the host of the local brigade busy. The youngsters engaged in the Foal Stakes (£1000) are a high-cla§s lot. the care of Quinlivan, ]uiir., f pjnipfades defeated Biplane at the experience...and livan to help the colt at Ellcrslie, liemay again finish in front of Mr Greenwood's nomination (Biplane). As usual the Robinson Handicap has drawn a large acceptance. Thurnham, who was imported from England, is in at-..three pounds over the minimum, ami is reported to be a very fair soit. The Cup field is a select one, ana bears an open appearance. The top weight, Chortle, has many admirers. (Ho is very well just now, but may bo troubled by the distance. Colonel Soult is a good horse when at his best, and in the writer’s opinion holds trie top-weight safe. > He ran fourth in < last year's Auckland Cup, and subsequently won the Wanganui Cup (If miles) under the impost of b.f. Aideuvohr is much fancied in certain quarters. He put up a fine performance in the New Zealand Cup, out afterwards ran badly at the same meeting. Mullingar is well handicapped, and up till recently was doing good work. About a week ago ho bled badly (an old complaint with him). The Toff put up a number ol high-class races at Riccarton, and respite tlie fact that Bouiform’s sou is rated at Gibs better than weight-for-age, a good race from him is assured. Lady Penury can have little chance. Blackall is the representative of a very dangerous stable. He is a great stayer, and has been backed | by the right people to win a big sum. ijobu Barleycorn is the best handi- | capped horse in the race on recent (performances. His connections aiv | very sanguine of success. Dopreda- ! lion will carry a large amount ol "araj uaki money. All ol the noises 'lo.ui j in the list have more or loss supporters. Possibly John Barleycorn, The j Toff and Colonel Soult may have a 1 S ay in the settlement of the race, j Although the names of good jumpers figure in the Grafton Huulles, the event will not be hard to win, owing to the condition of some ol the competitors. Gladful and Glenorchy snoum be handy. The Railway Handicap will 'bring together a lot of great sprinters, I Bimeter, Shrill, and Bisogne may run !well. Of the large number of tw«>-iyear-olds figuring in the Nursery. Ample and Mount Joy read best. Incfirst day’s programme will .conclude with the Christmas Handicap, f° r I which event. Bunting and Hylltis arc ! well handicapped.
