Taylor, farmer, Ngaere. stated that the accused had been employed by him lor the past lew months, during which time his be- 1 haviour had been quite satisfactory, though be appeared to be a little ou the “soft” side. Harry Bishop, teller at the National Bank, Stratford, gave accused a-cheque book on receipt ol an ordei from Taylor., The cheque lor £3 10s was handed him by accused but he. refused to cash it on account of the alterations which required Jaylors initials. The accused took away the cheque. Another cheque for £l2 "as received from a client and returned as irregular, and a cheque for £S 10s was also refused and endorsed “signature unlike.” Gustavus Wunch, storeman, in employ of Masters, Limited, stated that accused purchased a tin ol tobacco on 9th October and tendered a cheque for £7 10s 6d in payment, receiving £7 9s 6d in change. The cheque was subsequeutly dishonored. T. Smith, confectioner, stated that accused cashed a cheque at his shop on the 9th December in payment lor two “teas.” The amount of the cheque was £2 I.os and be gave <n cased £2 9s change. The cheque was returned from the Bank unpaid, j John Thomas Sydney Reader, employed'by R- Currin, stated that m ! Sergeant Dale deposed that, h* pmsequence of a complaint from'Messrs Masters, Ltd., lie made enquiries'and afterwards arrested accused, who admitted the various offences and was quite straightforward in his statements, He returned cash amounting to £lO 8s and also the bicycle obtained from Currin’s. Accused pleaded guilty to all the charges and was committed tor sentence to the Supreme Court at Wellington, at its next sittings.
