MILITARY SERVICE ACT. ITS REPEAL DESIRED. DELEGATES IN CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association). Wellington, December 20. A conference, to discuss the question of the repeal of the Military Service Act opened to-day. The report of tlie Press Committee states that eighty delegates were present, representing 50,000 members of various labour unions and federations, also other organisations. Mr J. Dowgnay (President of me United Federation League) was elected chairman and Mr P. Fraser was elected secretary. The Conlerence. which was not open to the presn, transacted only preliminary business
this morning. APPEAL BOARD DECISIONS. Dunedin, December 20. The Otago Military Service Hoard sat at Dunedin to-day. William Cooper, telegraphist, appealed on the ground that he was over age, having been born in 1868. .Allowed. Josiah Andrew Dysart, railway porter, appealed on the ground oi undue hardship and family circumstances.—Appeal dismissed. James Alexander Wahpiest, asphalting contractor, appealed on the ground his enlistment would be contrary to the public interest because (d his occupation, and would cause undue hardship.— Appeal dismissed, appellant not 'to be called tip till Kebruarv 2. “
