DISPUTE ABOUT A WILL. | RIVAL CLAIMS TO BEQUEST OF £SOOO. Per Press Association. Christ-church', December 12. A dispute, leading to litigation, has arisen over the will of Mrs Annie jQuayle Townend, who died .>n : Christchurch a few years ago and left nearly £BOO,OOO in bequests to .privateindividuals and to a few public institutions. Among these bequests was a sum of £SOOO to the Society for the [Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in the parish of Mallew, in the Isle of -Man. The parish covers an area of '12,000 acres, and contains about 4000 'inhabitants. At the time of -Mrs llowncnd's death, there was no society |of that character in the parish, but ithere was a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in the Isle of Man. The latter society claimed the sum, but after the,nature of the will was made known, a society was formed in the parish, and it also is claiming the money. In Chambers in the Supreme Court or Wednesday, before Mr Justice Denniston, Mr Greeson obtained an order for an originating summons to allow proceedings to be taken outside of New Zealand in order to bring the parties into court. Among the' partes are Mr T. P. Moore (who is Mrs Townend's heir,' and who visited Christchurch some time ago) and' the Attorney-General of the Isle of Ifcn.

This led to trouble, mpd the firemen pelted the police jpth fruit after having been forcibly plibed on hoard. As the ship moved agpy an American soldier on the wparf fired his revolver, and the firemeiuretaliated with a shower of bottles.
