The Cologne Gazette emphasises the seriousness of the food situation, .particularly in the failure of the potato crop, and points out that Bavaria refused to surrender her liarley for Germany. The strictest possible economy in bread, potatoes, meat, fats, and milk is essential. The Berliner Tageblatt declares that negotiations are being opened up with the food-distribution authorities with a view to the introduction of compulsory feeding of the masses, which may be extended to all classes.. FATAL RIOTS IN HAMBURG. TROOPS SENT FROM BERLIN. 1000 KILLED OR WOUNDED. (Received 11.40 a.m.) London, December 13. The Daily Express claims to have learned from a reliable source that there were 20,000 rioters in Hamburg on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and one thousand were killed or wounded by troops brought from Berlin to suppress the riot.
