LATEST PROGRESSIVE REPORT.

The activities of the committee set up to promote the establishment of a Producers’ Transport Company con tinuc. On November 23rd, Mr J. B. Richards met Sir James Wilson, of Bulls, Mr H. D. Vavasour, of Blenheim, and Mr J. McQueen, of Invercargill, at a meeting held in IV ellingtou for the purpose of discussing the question.

The urgent desirability of taking effective action was promptly recognised. This was assured by the correspondence previously published over the names ol the two first named gentlemen. The ability of the producers to establish and maintain a lleet of steamers is unquestionable, and the real difficulty lies in co-ordinating and organising tlie various views held by 1 those producers who have considered the matter.

For this purpose, there will probably he held early in the New Year, a meeting of producers representing as effectively as possible, the whole Dominion, to formulate and adopt a suitable scheme.

j Mr Richards also interviewed Mr D. Jones, of Christchurch,, president of the Farmers’ Union there, ami found him distinctly favourable to the proposition.
