SCHOOL COMMITTEES ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Stratford District School Committees Association was held at the Stratford, School yesterday afternoon, when there were present— Messrs J. McMillan (chairman), F. J. McDonald (Stratford), W. T. Mills' (Denbigh), J. H. Kirkby (Tuna), and the secretary, E. _A. Bocock (Haupuha), together with the chairman of the Board (Mr H. Masters). On the motion. Mr McMillanj seconded by Mr Bdchck, it was resolved, that a letter* ijf condolence bo sent to Mr E. Maricß on the loss of his son, who had in action. Mr Bocock Marfell had been a late memMßSßthe Board, and as a valued schoofiMinhnitte© member he was deservin|jj|™£their greatest sympathy. Thesfiefcjtttion was carried in silence. AnfWfe Mr Mills meiitiiJpf that he considered it was yeWj|fcifair that such short notice was’jsv|j.n with regard to the percentage QKWttificiency Certifi-, cates to he did not ob- 1 ject to the raisiuglojjtlie standard for proficiency, but thought more time should have been given by the authorities, both for the sake of the teachers and the scholars. It was generally considered that at least twelve months’ notice should have been given. Mr Bocock expressed his high opinion of the personnel of the present Board, and felt sure that as far as possible the interests of education would be watched over by the presest Chairman (Mr R. Masters). Mr Mills thought the claims of the School Committee’s Association did not receive the attention of the Government that it should, whereas every attention was directed to the claims of the teachers and the Teachers’ Institute. There was a consensus of opinion that the trend of thought should he directed more in favour of- the child, and not as at the present time in the interests of the teacher . Air Masters attended by invitation to give an address, but as the attendance was small, this was postponed until a later meeting.
