AMUSEMENTS.

FOLEY'S PICTURES. «■ BRITAIN PREPARED. TO-NIGHT. "The world has yet to know, and it doos not yet know, how much it owes to the British Fleet," said Mr Balfour, First Lord of the .Admiralty, when the war films, ''Britain Prepared," were screened at the Empire • (London) a few weeks ago. He [proceeded to make that declaration, in which he said that such a series of cinema pictures would l)e " a deep and vital lesson in the principles of naval power." It was chiefly hecause of Italy's firm faith in the British navy that she decided "to join the Allied cause. It is hecause of Germany's dread of the British navy that the special hatred of the Huns is directed against England, as in the Hymn of Hale." Nothing could lie more vividly impressive to reveal Britain's gigantic share in the defence of civilisation than pictures of the fleet as it is actually engaged in war operations in the North Sea.

Battleships are shown under construction ami in process of being launched. There is n section of film representing life on a mine-sweeper. 'A battle squadron at sea is represented in kineiliacolor, and from the decks of "Big Lizzie" the camera recorded a powerful squadron of battle ships and cruisers on ocean duty under the, escort of destroyers.
