Roumania

ROU MANIA’S PLIGHT.

f. •»<>■ ir.C^-u) GERMAN -CAMPAIGN OF ' HORROR.

CRATEFUL ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RUSSIAN HELP.

Press Association—Copyright, Austra. lian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 10.10 a.m.) Petrograd, November 27.

Wireless messages report a German campaign of horror in Western Wallachia, where the enemy are pillaging and massacring prominent Roumanians for having sent a memorandum of gratitude to Russia for loyal and invaluable aid in the terrible crisis. i.

M. Take Janescu, in the course of an interview, said: We Roumanians are unreservedly grateful. We have heard suggestions that Russia did not come to our - h,clp sufficiently quickly and that Russiq, was blameworthy for the: retreat in the Dobrudja, as she had left Roumania during the first assaults to bear the brunt of the enemy’s hatred. All the suggestions originate from German sources. Russia has loyally fulfilled every obligation without delay, and has generously done more than her duty. The Russians’ help exceeds what Roumania contemplated when she entered the war.”

• ENEMY PLANS FOILED.

PRESENT INTENTIONS.

AUSTRIAN BARBARITY.

Press Association; —Copyright, Auscra Jian and N.Z. Cable Association.

(Received 10.20 a.m.) London, November 27. An Italian semi-official report declares: The Austro-German newspapers are wrongly proclaiming that the Roumanians’ fate is sealed. The present enemy plan was adopted after the failure of the original one, by which it was hoped to force a passage ■ in the Transylvanian Alps, descending into the Praheva and Buzei: Valleys, and joining up with General Mackensen, who was expected to cross the Danube in the Dobrudja, thus separating Roumania from the re- ' mainder of Moldavia. The German effort was arrested in the east ami /centre, and next was directed against the most westerly point, which the Roumanians wisely abandoned. The communique adds: There fresh particulars daily oT Austrian barbarity being practised on the pnsoners. The affidavits of Mussulman Bosnians show that the enemy hahitu.Jly cut off the ears of the lialuu wounded and put a string round the., necks. .The officers encourage the atrocities.

NO WAR BOOTY AT KRAJOVA.
