London, November 21. The Exchange Telegraph correspondent says: A powerful counter-at-tack by the Germans north and south of the Somme last week resulted in their sanguinary defeat. A considerable force was employed at Ablaincourt and Chaulnes Wood, and the attack later extended to the north of the Somme between Los Boeufs and Boimhavrsncs. After a series of furious assaults, the enemy finally captured some advanced elements at the village of Pressoirc, on the outskirts of the St. Pierre Vaast Wood at the cost of heavy losses. The operations resulted in an absolute check to the most violent effort yet made by the Germans on the Somme front.
