Mr Garvin, writing in the Observer, in< Sealing with the Somme offensive, states that the Germans are thinner on the rest of the fronts, as they are concentrating their real strength at the rear of the threatened area. England must exhibit greater mobility and take over more of the French front. France has borne the brunt for two years and Britain must do it for the remainder of the war.

Mr Massey was impressed with.'the Institute's exhibits of ran materials from various parts of the Empire, and hopes to improve New Zealand's display, which at present is unsatisfactory. Cambridge University has conferred a Doctorahip upon Mr Massey. Thero "'as a large attendance, mostly khaki-clad. Mr Massey and Sir Thomas Mackenzie luncheoned at Queen's College, and departed for Scotland on Sunday.
BRITISH FOOO PRICES. Press Association—Copyright. United Service. (Received 11.25 a.m.) London, November 19. T!ho Food Regulations have little affected the prices thero being a slight increase. English meat and potatoes are largely withheld, owing to the uncertainty of whether the Government will take over the supply. The Kood Prices Commission favour a fixed price for wheat. Experts advocate the Government offering British farmers fixed rates for the 1917 crop in order to stimulate cultivation. Important journals urge that the solution is increased home production, increased tonnage and the opening of the Black Sea. a necessity being an immediate effort to increase the mercantile tonnage.
