Mr J. A. Scott, editor of the S.Z. Tablet," has resigned owing to ti'.e state of his health. Messrs J. B. Richards and E. Marfoil left for Waverley on a business trip to-day by the mail train. Brigadier-General Glasfurd, commanding the 17th Australian Infantry Brigade, has been killed in France. A Sydney cable states that Mr Drew,'a member of the South African Parliament., is a passenger for New Zealand by the Moeraki. The death of Mr C. Studholme, the New Zealand sportsman, from an attack of pneumonia, is reported from Sydney. A London cable states that Sir Joseph Ward left hurriedly for Dublin, where his son, Gladstone, has had a serious relapse, following a motor accident a few weeks ago. Mr W. W. Cook, Doputy-Regis-trar-Gencral and Chid'.Clerk of the Registrar-General's department, has been appointed Registrar-General, vice Mr Mamsliehl, retired on superannuation, owing to ill-health. Mr P. P. Stewart i.ecountant at the Stratford branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, has received notice of transfer to Kokitika, near Greymouth. .Mi- Stewart ,has been in Stratford lor about two years, and will be missed by many friends. News has been received that Rifleman Leslie Amies, who left with the first Lord Liverpool's Own, and was wounded in France, has had his leg amputated at the thigh, consequent on his knee-cap being shot away. Rifleman Amies is a nephew of Mr T. Lawson, of Stratford, and his parents reside at Palmerston North.

Mr G. T. Murray, hitherto actingstaff engineer to the Public Works Department at Christchurcfi, is at present filling the position of district engineer in Auckland, pending the appointment of the successor of Mr F. Bigg-Wither, who lately, vacated tlio office, and is retiring from, the public service on superannuation. The following transfers of officers of the Post and Telegraph., Department are announced:—P. Curtis to he Senior Inspector, North Island; P. D. Kelly, to be Senior Inspector. South Island; Assistant Inspectors, J. Redmond, C. F. Potter and G. R. Cooper; S.F. Hazard to, be Chief Postmaster, Greymouth : E. R. De L. Bean to be postmaster, Lower Hutt; J. Jamieson, to be District Accountant, Timaru; J. Henderson, to bo District Accountant, Oamaru; J. R. Powell, to be Senior Parcels Clerk, Auckland.— Press Association.
