Roumania

THE CRISIS PASSING.

London, November 11

The Daily Telegraph’s Milam correspondent states that General von Falkenhayn’s latest despatch proves the Roumanians to be making a more successful resistance than the Geiraans expected. The battle now rage* along the entire length of the Transylvanian Alps. There is . stubborn fighting daily on every road, path, and pass, and desperate engagements on every mountain and in every valley. The weather has improved. There are warm days, but cold, foggy nights, which are causing more discomfort and suffering to the Germans than to mo Roumanians.

The net result of the Roumanians bold defence southward of Predeal this month has been 1* alkcnhayn <8 complete failure to advance, his coveted march towards Sinai being baulked. Falkenhayn, however, claims repeated victories, but the Roumanians have disputed every inch, and now hold permanent defence positions at Azuga. The Roumanian resistance is becoming firmer every day, and is gradually destroying the enemy’s hope of forcing a passage. Falkenhayn’s attempt on the Alt Passes further north definitely failed, frequent successful Roumanian coun-ter-attacks having compelled the enemy to hurry up reinforcements at menaced points; There are indications that the crisis has passed, and thift the tide is turning in the Roumanians’ favor.
