THE MERCANTILE MARINE.

Wellington, November 9.

The Recruiting Board has advised the Seamen’s Union that in response to a request for exemption for seamen of the Mercantile Marine, that in the event of the ballot falling on -seamen with not less than twelve months sea-service who are regarded by the Minister of Munitions as indispensable for the Mercantile Marine, it is intended to recommend;., the Military Service Board to grant exemption while the reservists are following their calling as seamen.
