THU ONE AND ONLY WAY, Novemher H. i At a meeting of the Timaru recruiting committee this evening, the following motion, proposed hy Mr Craigie. M.P., was carried with one. dissentient, “That while this committee expresses its willingness to do anything in its power to assist the voluntary system, it'would' respectfully urge the Government to expedite matters and enforce compulsory defence without delay, as it considers that compulsion is the only sure method of keeping up our Expeditionary Forces for the Defence of the Empire.”
CER EBRO-SPINAL MENINGITIS. Wellington, Novemher .6. Sergeant Thomas O’Meara., of the 17th Specialist Company, died at the Featherston military hospital this morning from cctebro-spimil meningitis.
THE SICK AND WOUNDED.

The Defence Minister states that henceforth money to provide comforts for sick and wounded New Zealand soldiers in Egyptian hospitals will be forwarded direct from New Zealand, and the High Commissioner has been advised it is unnecessary for him to send money from Loudon for that purpose.
