Numerous fires in the sugar districts are believed to be the work of an incendiary gang. Investigations arc proceeding. The lire destroyed an hotel and seven shops at Goomliwindi, the damage being £10,030. GOVERNMENT OF THE ISLANDS. (Received 10.5 oa.m.) Sydney, October 13. At Pacific Commission, the manager of the German Australian Shipping Co., further thought there should be a central Government of the Islands, which would adopt itself to its own environment better than being governed from Australia, England, or New Zealand.
