In connection with the Self-denial \ week associated with the Bible Class Union on behalf of the Belgian Belief Fund, a large sum has- been ifor- : warded to headquarters! The sum of £2 was raised by the local Union towards that object. Fifty-five New Zealanders | have been awarded the Military Medal. The medals were awarded for acts of bravery on various occasions throughout the. campaign. Eight each gp to the Army .Medical Ccpfps, Engineers' ;; and Artillery,-, seven each toi the Pioneers, Canterbury Rifles and ■ Wellington Rifles, five to the Auckland Rifles, four to the Otago Rifles, and one to the Otago Mounted Rifles. A writ has been issued against the Waipawa Hospital Board on behalf of Private C. Hill, returned soldier, now inmate of a Daunevirkc private hospital, claiming £3OOO damages for injuries allegedly received while undergoing X-ray treatment in the Dannevirke public hospital for injuries received at Gallipoli.—Press Association. N s a .»r j * . From time to time the Stratford Ladies’ Patriotic Committee are busy ■ preparing hold-alls which are . presented to each man leaving for camp. These are always open for inspection by the public at the Patriotic Rooms, Broadway, so that all may see what is given to our boys. A further batch of men are leaving Stratford on Monday next, and these will receive some of these gifts' before leaving. Since the scheme came into operation on 3rd March, 1915, the Dominion Government has paid out on account of meat consigned to the Imperial Government £12,837,651 ; for cheese, the commandeering of which commenced on 4tb November last, the payments to-day amount to £917,748; while the total payments for scheelite which was commandeered last Septemebbrer, amounted to £47,083.—Press Association. The meeting of the Executive Committee of the Stratford A. and P. Association was held last evening, I when there was present: Messrs E. Mackson (chairman), R. Dingle, W. *J. Lopdcll, A. C. Bell, W. S. Cato, C. Jackson, I'. Hanford, and H. McK. Morison. It was decided that the details in connection with the Juvenile Judging classes be left in the i bands of Messrs Fulton and Sergei. Mr C. Jackson and the Secretary , were appointed to arrange for the grass paddocks to be closed on the 20th inst. With regard to the exnibition of stock, it was decided to > make a special appeal to farmers throughout the district, and the following canvassers were appointed to , canvass the district on Thursday next.
