FIRE
A lire broke out in New Plymouth on Saturday afternoon in Mr Newton King's buildings on the western side of Devon street facing Brougham street. Mr Icing's offices and mart were extensively damaged by water, and the loss there will probably run into/some hundreds of pounds. The part of the building occupied by Milt. Cock (.Piccadilly Dining Rooim), also suffered considerably from smoke ami water, and Mr Cock estimates that his insurances, £IOO in the National office, will not cover his loss. The shops and offices of other occupants of the block : Messrs \Y. T. Hookani (clothier), Burke (bootmaker), Phoenix Assurance Coy, J). Hutchen (lawyer), Alliance Assurance, Taronaki Amusements, Ltd., Sanderson and Falconer, and T. Buxton —' were not damaged, and their inconvenience was but temporary. The insurances held by Mr King (.all in the Phoenix, office a re: Stock in mart £SOO, stock of grass -Seed £SOO, stationery £2OO. block of buildings £2250, a total of £3150.
