THE VOYAGE OF THE % U 53A TORPEDOING EXPEDITION. Press Association—Copyright, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 1.25 p.m.) Washington, October 8. The Navy Department confirms the torpedoing of the West Point. It is believed the crew have taken to the life boats. An unconfirmed report states that another British steamer, the Strathcarn was also attacked. j A wireless states that the U 53 held up the American steamer Kansas from New York, when bound tor Boston, examined her papers,, and allowed her to proceed to Kansas. Later she received a wireless call from the West Point.
