Archbishop Cerretti, in a letter to the Coadjutor Archbishop of Brisbane, defining the attitude of the Catholic Church on conscription, says, it is unreasonable to involve the Church in an issue which its members as citizens are called upon to decide, and for that reason he is sure addresses on the subject should not be delivered from the pulpit in Catholic churches.
CONSCRIPTION CAMPAIGN. (Received 10.45 a.in.) Brisbane, October'S. \he Prime Minister (Mr Hughes) successfully opened the conscription campaign, when there was a crowd of three thousand. An anti-consci iption meeting outside was rushed hs soldiers and dispersed. An orderly meeting of unionists passed a motion opposing conscription.
ANOTHER FLYING SQUADRON. (Received 10.45 a.m.) Melbourne, October 5. The defence authorities are raising an additional squadron of the flying £ corps.
