PATRIOTISM AND BUSINESS.
(To The Editor Port.l Sir, —t wonder if it lias over occurred to the Ladies’ Patriotic Committee the harm they are doing u the name of patriotism to a certain section of the Stratford business people. According to published statements, the patriotic tea rooms take on an average about £6 per week or £260 per annum. Divide this equally among the four refreshment rooms in the town and we find these people are taxed to the extent of £66 pet annum each. Is it fair to ask these people to contribute so largp a sum from what, after all. is not a verv lucrative business. Ear be it from me to detract from the efforts of the Stratford ladies on behalf our gallant lads, but, iii the instance quoted, I think patriotism has run away with reason., and the businesses referred to have to contend with unfair competition. If the ladies’ committee view this matter in the right light they will see that at least some people in this town are suffering an injustice. T am, etc., ' EAT 11 PLAY IS BONNIE PLAY.
