THE MONOWAI EXPLOSION. Per Press Association. Auckland, September 20. The waterside workers resolved today to ask for a public inquiry into the recent acid explosion on the Monotaai, by which a number of men were injured. AN UNFORTUNATE CASE. Auckland, September 20. The clerk of the Wareora Head Board, an elderly man named Frederick William Tothill, was committed for sentence in the Police Court on a charge of appropriating £32, the property of the Board. The detective, in evidence, said accused bore an excellent character, and was really to be sympathised with, as he did not seem to have enough "go" to earn a living. A CHARGE OF ARSON. Foxton, September 20. •Detective Quirke yesterday arrested a youth named Wallace Stanley Martin eighteen years of age, on five charges of alleged arson in connection with the recent Foxton fires. Accused was brought before Mr Horn Wow, J.P., and remanded to the 26th iicst. Substantial bail was asked for, Bus it was not forthcoming.
