The Hon. W. C. F. Carncross, who is a member of the Parliamentary Party visiting the Home Country, returns to New Zealand via the Panama Canal. Mr W. E. Butler, chief clerk in tho,, ; Defence Department, Wellington, is on a visit to Stratford, and is the guest of Mrs J. Fitzgerald, Page Street. Lieutenant Gray, of the local De-t ■'■. fence Office, is under instructions to proceed to headquarters, having been promoted to the charge of a large area in the Wellington Military District, and will leave for the scene of his new duties on Monday morning. Lieutenant Gray's many friends in Stratford and the wide district of which he has been in charge for the past two years, while sorry to lose him, will rejoice at the advancement in his profession which the change means to the Lieutenant.
