In the- Legislative Council, Dr. Jreed introduced a Bill providing that annates may adopt male attire and a male Christian name with the object of allowing them to follow male callings which are at present prevented oy the disabilities of female attire. Edward. Stainer was sentenced to death for the murder of a Chinaman in ' April last. Melbourne, September 1. A congress of trades unions is being aeld in each State before the end ot M'pember.
