STRONG ENEMY POSITIONS CAPTURED. The High Commissioner reports:— London, August 23 (2.20 p.m.) The Italian official report states: The Italians carried strong enemy positions on the western slopes of Third Toffo and Travenazes Valley, inflicting heavy loss on the enemy. A communique states: 'The (Austrians intensely bombed the bottom of the Astico Valley. ' After effective artillery preparation, our Alpine detachments carried strong positions in the Lofaha area,, inflicting heavy losses. AUSTRIANS COURTMARTIALLED. General Riedel, the Austrian commander at Gorizia, and two colonels were courtmartialled for their absence on a pleasure trip during the first forty-eight hours of the Italian attack.
