FIRE AT HEW PLYMOUTH.
SERIOUS OUTBREAK AT THE BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL. New Plymouth, August 'll. A fire occurred at the Boys’ High School at four o’clock this morning, resulting in the destruction of the greater part of the class rooms and the gymnasium. The headmaster’s residence had a narrow escape, but was saved, as also was the hoarding house block. Tho Fire Brigade worked well, hut the gale blowing made the task difficult. 'Hie insurances were as follows; In tho Standard office £1475 ou the buildings, £l5O on the apparatus, and £IOO ou tho furniture (a little salvage) ; in the New Zealand office £1025 on the buildings . (almost a total loss; in the Atlas, on the buildings £250 ; in the . Alliance, £IOO <-n the furniture (partial loss); in the Guardian and Phoenix, £BOO each on the gymnasium (total loss). The Board’s loss is barely half covered.
