I THE SITUATION AT GORIZIA. Press Asscciation-Oopyrighv, Austra\ian and N.Z. Cable Association. London, August 9. An Italian official message states that Gorisia was occupied to-day.
Yesterdav morning, after intense artillorv bombardment, we completed the occupation of the heights westward ot the town. The trendies and dug-outs were found to he full of enemy corpses. At nightfall we crossed the Ison/.0, ! consolidating on the left bank. ! We repulsed counter-attacks on the giiuimit of Mount San Michele, and took further trenches at San Martmo. The Morning Post's Budapest correspondent states that n recent \Uitor to Gorizia found the town half in ruins. Many people were remaining ill the town, being determined, after the Italians entered, to endure the
Austrian shells in the same way as they had endured those of the Italians. SECRET OF THE SUCCESS. Milan, August 10. 11 Secolo states that one important secret of tlio Italians' success was tint their artillery directed a terrible lire on the Austrian headquarters' ob* solvation posts and military telegraphs over a wide area, including the largo hotel witliin the town, from whence the Austrian artillery was directed. The hotel was wrecked, thus, in a few hours, the enemy's brain and eye were destroyed. THE AUSTRIAN REPORT. I _—— | London, August 10. An Austrian communique states: Fierce, battles at Gorizia continue. A few detachments of the enemy reached the town. We repulsed Italian attacks at San Michele and San Martino. OPERATIONS AT 20RSZIA. The High Commissioner reports:--London, August 10 (6.30 p.m.) An Italian official report says: In the Gorizia area we have continued to cross tho Isonzo. The cavalry and cyclists are advancing to the east of the town under heavy fire. Heavy losses were sustained by the enemy. Several hundreds were taken prisoners, the total up to the present being 268 officers and 12,072 men.
