DAILY PROGRESS REPORT. The High Commissioner reports:— London, August 10 (2.5 p.m.) General Sir Douglas Haig reports: The, night generally was quiet, except that there was hostile shelling southeast of Tron'es Wood. North-west of Pozieres, we further progressed, gaining local objectives, which were held by seventy-two whom we made prisoners. South of Arras an enemy sap was raided, when there were several casualties.
FRENCH OFFICIAL REPORT.
The High Commissioner reports :- London, August 10 (2.55 p.m.)
A French official report states: North of the Somme during the night we progressed northwards of Hem Wood, making prisoners of 100 and capturing six machine-guns. Ram and fog hindered the operations. South of the Somme, a German reconnaissance, accompanied by liquid flames, was dispersed by our fire westwards of Yermand Ovillers. In. the Yosges. the enemy by a coup-de-main preceded by bombardment of our salient lines north-west of Altkirch was unsuccessful, with loss to the enemy.

General Sir Douglas Haig reports: The night was quiet except for heavy German shelling south-oast of Trones Wood. We gained all the local objectives north-west of Pozieros, where we are now consolidating. ,
THE GHENT ARSENAL AFFAIR.
(Received 11.40 a.m.) Amsterdam, August 10. The arsenal at Ghent was half destroyed by the recent air raid. The workmen took panic, and there were 8o German casualties.

(Received 11.40 a.m.) Paris, August 10. The Queen of Montenegro and the Princesses have arrived and wdl reside in Paris. BELGIANS BOMBARDMENT. London, August 9. A Belgian communique states: W o successfully bombarded fortifications in the Dixmude region. , BELGIAN WOMEN DEPORTED. Paris, August 10. The Germans are applying the Lille slave methods to Belgium, where married women, applying for relief, were ordered to be deported to Holland and Switzerland. Men have been forbidden to leave. There is intense indignation. Holland is alreadv exasperated over the impending arrival of hundreds of German children, on the plea of giving them a holiday on the Zuyder Zee.
