RETURN OF THE JOHN
WILLIAMS
The London .Missionary .Society’s steam yacht John Williams returned to Sydney last week after another successful to the . South Seas. She entered the Heads at 6 a.m., and after being granted pratique berthed at Dawes Point. Leaving Sydney on April 28, the John Williams made calls at Niue, Samoa, and Tokelau, Ellice, and Gilbert Groups. Fair weather was experienced throughout, and with the exception of the Gilbert Islands, where rain was much needed, the conditions in the various islands were found to bo normal.
The John Williams brought as passengers Revs. W. E. and Mrs Goward, H. B. and Mrs James and child,. Miss Forth, and-seven natives. The islands in the Tokelau Group and also Nukulaelae, in the Ellice, were reported to be recovering from the effects of the hurricane which recently devastated those islands. One astonishing result of the visitation the land in the Tokelaus was more fertile than hitherto.
