A communique states; On August 6, on the Soreth, we took 2000 prisoners, a portion of them being Germans. Fighting continues to he fierce.
Ouri successes southward of Brody bring the Russians within fourteen miles of the Tarnopol railway. It is reported that the Austrians have begun to retire from Tarnopol in the direction of Zlotchoff.
Prisoners state that three divisions of German reinforcements have been sent to Zlotchoff and Pomorjang.

Mr Washburn, reviewing the two months’ offensive, states that Russia approximately advanced fifty-five miles at various points, and made prisoners of three generals, 7064 officers, 330,000 soldiers, and captured 504 guns and twelve hundred machineguns.. Ho represented the losses, ine eluding dead, casualties, and missing, at threequarters of a million. Ho could not state the Russian losses, but they were of no military significance; she could sustain double the summer’s losses for five years without a shortage of men.

(Received 11.45 a.m.) Potrograd, August 8. A communique states: Wc are successfully advancing on the Sereth, fortifying the captured positions. Wo made prisoners of 850 U. A party of Austrians advanced on the Stokhod and lifted up their hands, anti then treacherously killed the colonel. Our riflemen killed the whole party.
We took the offensive southward of the Dneister on a front of twenty-five versts and penetrated and drove the enemy hack along the whole line. We captured', a town in the Tlumacy region, eastward of the Dneister, and several heights. Our attack wit! gas is proceeding southward of tin Kolomea-Stanislan railway.
