A cablegram from Capetown states .that the Ltangatira is now a total wreck. Those farmers who have difficulty in making up their income tax returns will find something of interest at foot of column (i of page ■>. Owing to the very exceptional weather, the sale of pedigree and grade: Jerseys which was to have been held to-day by Newton King on hehalf of Mi .1. T. Belcher, Waingongoro Road, Cardiff, was postponed until Friday, August 11.
The Taranaki Education Hoard election resulted in the return of Messrs S. (;. Smith, Rev. A. 13. Chapped (north ward), R. Masters, H. Trimble (central ward), 0. A. Wilkinson and E. Dixon (south ward). The polling in the Central Ward was as follows: Masters 156, Trimble 77, Marfell 62; Mackay 50, Kennedy 39.
A tram accident occurred at the' junction of Cutfield and Belt Roadsyj New Plymouth, about 9 o'clock last evening, whereby an old-age pensioner named John Hawke, from Mangorei, met his death. The old man became .confused when crossing the 'line, and was knocked down by a tramuar irom the Breakwater. ''
The total rainfall registered in Stratford last month was 6.6 S inches, the' heaviest fall being on the 31st, when 1.29 inches was recorded. Particular of the fall are as follows :—lst .82, 4th .27, Hth .08, 10th .03, 11th ,13, 12th .59, 13th .21. 11th .4, 15th 1.06, 16th .0-1, 17th 0.-1, 20th .10, 21st .19, 22ud .52, 23rd .19, 24th .51, 25th .15, 30th .07, 31st 1.29.
The new-tea-rooms in the Stratford Municipal Chambers will bo opened for business on Monday next, August 7th, and these handsome and conveniently situated rooms are now being specially furnished and arranged. The new rooms should become a very popular resort, as they will be quite up to city standard, and are so centrally V situated. Jt is intended to specially cater for. parties, and the special private gatherings so popular with hostesses in the large towns and cities nowadays. ,

A good programme will be given in the Foresters' Hall this evening to commence at 7.30, on the occasion ol Mrs Duxfield's visit to organise a branch of the Loyal Temperance League. This Society belongs to the children; they elect all the officers from among themselves and manage all their own business affairs, but they need the encouragement of the grownup: at least until the League is properly started. There will be no charge for admission, but a collection will be taken up for the Y.M.C.A. at the front fund.
Farmers will be interested to know that .Messrs E. T. Jones and Son, Ltd., Wanganui, have specially compiled and published a simple form of cash hook and ledger in one. The various headings are in accord with the Income Tax returns farmers have now to make. It is all in the most simple form, and is adaptable to all kinds of fanning; thus the information of the transactions will he found of great use to enable those who use them to see their position at a glance at any time. Such a book in a cheap form will be found a boon, and supplies a want that has long been felt. It will no doubt he much appreciated by all - those interested. especially farmers.

The above amount was collected, with three per cent, added interest since October, 1914, by l)allohney's Wvu<\, and represents the ani OUUt collected less expense of hire of costumes, etc. The object was co collect suilicient to form a drum and hi,, band for the cadets in your town."
