lian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 11.5 a.m.) Milan, August 1
Much importance is attached to the talian capture of Mount Cavallazza vnd Colbrich, with the possession of Bricon Pass, a deep gorge between them, which is one of the most important keys to the Upper Trentino. An officer points out that Italy previously vainly tried for fourteen months to hatter this gate, which has fallen at last, largely as the result of the inployment lor the first time of trench mortars. The attack began at dawn .vith a furious bombardment by heavy artillery, but apparently it Mas a failure, as tlio shells had not penetrated the narrow gorges. The bombardiers sere ordered to try the new trench mortars, and the first bomb was a great success. . The Bersaglieri in a wild charge captured the summit of Bricon.
