20th REINFORCEMENTS. DOMINION SHORTAGE, 406.
The Hon. W. Massey, Chairman of the Recruiting Hoard, telegraphs from Wellington to-day as follows ■ The position with respect to recruitfor the 20th Reinforcements is, on the whole, quite satisfactory. Already, several of the group areas have either provided their quota, or more than .their quota, and the indications point to the shortages now shown in the remaining groups beng made good before this draft mobilises for training in the last week of this month. Official figures of the enlistments for the Infantry (all other arms of the service being full) as at date of Friday, 28th July, are as follows: Group No. 1, Auckland City, complete.
Group No. 2, Paoroa, shortage 5. Group 3, Whangarei, shortage 41
Group 4, Hamilton, shortage 43. Total shortage for Auckland Military District 89.
Group No. 5, Wellington Caty, surplus 5. Group No. 0, Palmerston North, shortage 62.
Group 7, Napier, shortage 32. Group 7a, Masterbon. shortage'l6. ’ Group 8, Hawera, shortage -18. Total shortage for Wellington Military District 153.
