Christian Eichstondt, Midhirst. lias Ijccu passed as medically fit in!' the* Infantry section of the Reinforcements. At yesterday’s meeting of the Stratford Co-operative Dairy Company, Mr R. Dingle was elected chairman for the fouteenth year of tenure'of that office.

The funeral of the late Mr Arthur Simmons, the victim of the unfortunate shooting accident at Te Wera, will move from the Stratford Hospital at 3 o’clock to-morrow, for the Kopuatama cemetery.

The members of the choir of the Catholic Church assembled after 'Vespers on Sunday I ' night, and the Rev. Father Maples, presented Miss W. Fitzgerald,, who is about to enter the bonds of ' matrimony, with a silvermounted salad' bowl. Father Maples, in a short speech, spoke of the good work Miss Fitzgerald had done while a member of the choir. Mr W. Bowler briefly responded on Miss Fitzgerald’s behalf.

Mr T. W. Fisher, for the past ten years Under-Secretary for the Native Affairs Department and a Judge of thisiNative Land Coilrt, retired "yesterday on superannuation (reports the Press Association). He was met by representatives of the Department from all pjarts of New Zealand, and Hon. W. H. Herries, Minister in charge of the Department, presented Mr Fisher on their behalf with a gold watch and other gifts, as a' mark of appreciation. The Native Affairs department now ceases’ to be a' separate department, 1 the work being amalgamated with the! Justice Department, Mr C. B. Jordafi' being Under-Secre-tary to the combined‘offices.
