CASE FOR RUA'S DEFENCE.

Counsel for the defence in Itua's trial continued his address to-day, and lie had not concluded when the Court adjourned. Criticising the armed party which went to Maungapahotu, counsel said the men were not, trained to the use of arms. There was no plan, and no discussion of possibilities which might arise. The men were not told to wait for orders, everyone being Ids own general. If there had been any intention to kill the police, the .Maoris could, said counsel, bare easily captured or killed the Whakatane and Gisborne police, who arrived hist, instead of so doing, the officers were shown every courtesy.
