At the annual meeting of the Eltham Fire Brigade on Tuesday evening, the election of officers resulted as follows :—Captain, H. A. Xuttall, reelected; lieutenant, S. Murray, reelected ; first foreman, Fireman Henn; second foreman, Fireman A. Taylor; secretary, A. M. Burrows, re-elected ; treasurer, Captain Xuttall, re-elected; caretaker. Fireman Stevens; auditor, K. Parrott. re-elected; surgeon, Dr. Cooper. The following were elected a standing committee: Firemen Henn, Taylor, and Stevens. A resident of ;: Chrigtchurch suburb the other night entertained a friend, lie showed him his house, and among other improvements, pointed out how an electric power plant had been installed from which—though it Mas against the rules—bis household drew power for ironing at night. There is on view at the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.'s, Ltd., office, a fine sample of Garton's Superlative swedes, grown by Mr Chas. Mayhead, of Midhirst. The yield per acre was very large, and the seed and manure were supplied by the Company.
