Mr A. J. Morton, of Hokitika, who has been appointed senior inspector in the Taranaki education district, will arrive in New Plymouth on Moji-; day evening next. Mr Whetter, who .has been transferred to Napier, will take up his new duties on August 8.
Included in the recent lists of* casualties at the front, among the wounded, is the name of Private K. \ L Aitken, whose parents reside at Hamilton, and who is a nephew ot Mr Arthur Morton, of Egmont Village. |
Mr ; G. J. of Gisborne (bro-ther-in-law of Mrs Savage and MrrC O Knox, Te Popo), has surely tasted his cup of sorrow. Two years ago'hss oldest son'Robert was killed through a fall from a horse. Then when the bugle sounded the call to duty, his two remaining sons, Ernest and, George, joined the Colours as lieutenants." About two months ago Ernest' was wounded, and now in the latest list is the name of Lieutenant George "killed in action" while helping a wounded comrade to a place ot safety. Just before leaving New Zealand, he was married to Miss Strang, of Palmerston. We sympathise with Mr and Mrs Black and family a* sincerely as we do with so many others who have paid the penalty through, the ambition of "Kultur."
